However, neither its appearance nor its long history should be misleading, as the Solfège référence 20 is based on the experience gained with the current Récital and Opéra models. It represents a synergy of minimalist circuitry, very high-quality components, and an amplifier design adaptable to requirements, resulting in compatibility with a very wide range of loudspeakers. In addition to its similarities with other Audiomat models—such as premium components, a wide Class A operating range, SCR film capacitors, oversized transformers and output transformers custom-made by a supplier from the aerospace industry, an aluminum chassis, and resonance-optimized placement on three cones—it differs in one decisive point: the Solfège référence 20 allows selection via a switch on the underside between moderate global negative feedback of 6 dB (as used in other Audiomat amplifiers) and the activation of additional local current feedback. This reduces the output power provided by the two KT88 tubes per channel from a nominal 45 W to 25 W, but provides increased control. For loudspeakers with a balanced impedance curve, ample power is still available, while impedance-critical loudspeakers benefit from the increased control and precision. Thus, the optimal operating mode can be set for each loudspeaker depending on its efficiency and impedance behavior. Like all Audiomat devices, the Solfège référence 20 is carefully handcrafted. During development, particular attention was paid to potential sound-degrading microphonic effects; mechanical vibration dissipation of the chassis is therefore achieved via three solid brass cones. The best sonic results are obtained when the Solfège référence 20 is placed on a support selected according to musical considerations. For convenience, the Solfège référence 20 features remote-controlled volume adjustment via a high-quality ALPS potentiometer, offering both normal and fine volume control. This is especially advantageous with high-efficiency loudspeakers. Input selection is performed in the traditional way using a sonically superior mechanical switch from Lucas. The Solfège référence 20 does not use power-hungry standby circuits; after listening, it is completely disconnected from the mains via a toggle switch on the front panel.
